CHAIR-ITY
Turning houses into homes for aged out foster youth.
Chair-ity began is 2014, with a mission to eliminate the financial and emotional barriers of creating a home for youth who have experienced significant time in foster care and are beginning independent living. Hand-me-down furniture and household goods are provided to these young adults, just as a parent would provide for their child, turning their house into a home.
Chair-ity is unique in that their services are cost-free to the young adults, and they work directly with social workers to establish their needs and ensure they are in safe and stable housing. Unlike their peers who will move into their first apartment or home with the help and guidance of family and friends, youth who age out of foster care do not have this network of support. They do not have parents helping them rent a truck, find a safe and comfortable home, purchase and move furniture, or receive hand-me-downs. This is where Chair-ity steps in. Chair-ity is working to bridge the gap between youth who age out of foster care and their peers who do not experience, and rarely think about, these hardships.
Volunteer opportunities include interior design, delivery assistance, kitchen box creation and warehouse organization.
