In a fitting end to #NationalVolunteerMonth, Independent Sector has released the updated value of volunteer time, showing the impact of volunteers across the country and state. "Putting a dollar value on volunteer hours will never do justice to their true worth, but it is just one way for us to show the contributions individuals and organizations have made in our communities. The estimate helps acknowledge the millions of individuals who dedicate their time, talents, and energy to making a difference." No matter what kind of volunteer work you do, your contributions are invaluable to the success of our community. Thank you for serving others, and for spending your National Volunteer Month with BVU!

#NationalVolunteerWeek may be coming to an end, but for Homeless Stand Down volunteer David Suh, a biomedical engineer working to support disabled veterans, the work is just beginning. "Helping to distribute shoes to veterans may have been a relatively small job in the grand scheme of the event, but it was perfect for me," David shared. "I’m in the process of starting in a new biotechnology-related role at the VA Medical Center. Volunteering was a great opportunity to connect with the population I will be serving in my new position, while having a direct impact on those who are struggling." This was David's first time volunteering with BVU, and it won't be his last: "I appreciate that BVU focuses on the root causes of issues to help volunteers understand their impact on a deeper level. I’m looking forward to finding more opportunities to support the local community." Good luck in your new role, David! Sponsors are more than a name on a banner! Just ask Dezirae Stoker, PHR (a team member of Meaden & Moore), now in her second year of involvement with BVU and the Homeless Stand Down. "BVU has played a significant role in shaping the way I help out. I had donated to organizations before, but I wasn’t seeing the people I was helping or hearing their stories. Volunteering was truly an incredible experience that proved the importance of lending a helping hand, even if that just means handing someone a t-shirt or a pair of socks," Dezirae explains. She adds, "BVU’s dedication to fostering partnerships between businesses and nonprofits has opened up resources to me not only in a professional setting, but also in my personal life." We are grateful to be a part of your volunteer journey, Dezirae! Check out our full conversation at https://lnkd.in/e-UK6Vqz #NationalVolunteerWeek #HomelessStandDown #BVUSuccessStory
